This was the second of three linked sites for Yokohama, the others being the corporate site and a site for TSW alloy wheels. Carrying through the flame motif that linked all three sites, the flames laid down by the Porsche here were animated to flicker (not quite the infamous 'flaming logo' but close!). This site is really just a reversal of the corporate site, with a white menu bar this time and a black main page. The black background on the main pages ensures that the tyre images look dramatic. I don't know why but car images always seem to look best against a black background. Experience has taught me that black sites have to be handled carefully and with a very limited palette of colours - there's nothing like rainbow text on a black background to say 'my first homepage'! This site showed details of all the various high-performance tyres made by Yokohama as well as news articles, technical guides and examples of the company's advertising in various car magazines. There was also a local stockist locator.
Of the three site designs I produced, this was the only one that neeed a 'second pass' to meet with the client's approval. The first design, which I still prefer, was rejected on the grounds that a burning tyre wasn't quite the impression that they wanted to convey! Shows how sometimes you need that objective view to look at your design concept - it was supposed to look like the sun! The bit I'm most proud of in this one? Check out the reflection of the burning tyre in the rear window of the Porsche!
