The third Yokohama site was very different in look and feel to the corporate site and the YHPT site. Aimed at a younger market, the brief was to make the TSW site look funky and contemporary. This was a nice change from the usual corporate style! Existing brochureware provided a hint at the colour-scheme and the client wanted images of their top-selling wheels as well as the branded motorsport car.
The purple right-hand pages were branded with a moulded TSR logo background and the images were laid on top of this as transparent gifs. As I was manipulating the images, it struck me that it would be quite funny to have the car appearing to burst through the screen. A further level of 'oddness' is the fact that it appears to have torn through a paper page...which itself only exists on a glass screen... well, perhaps you had to be there, but it made me chuckle... The torn paper and the page glimpsed through the 'hole' were created in Photoshop by a combination of scanning and 'painting'. Oh, by the way, the flames coming from the back of the car animate too!
A clashing yellow menu bar seeming to have been 'scribbled' on, and a nice grungy typewriter font with some subtle rollover effects keep the look very current (at least in 1998 when it was designed!).
