Work for Hughes Rae (1998-2001)

- steep learning curve!

I joined Hughes Rae in June 1998 as their Graphic Designer. Hughes Rae were a small, cutting-edge Internet company based in Derby, building websites and applications for business clients.

My predecessor as Graphic Designer had left some quite big shoes to fill, and I was a little daunted at first to be suddenly doing professionally to strict and often aggressive time-scales what I had only done in my 'spare time' before. It was a very steep learning curve. But I found it challenging and exciting (and the regular income was an unaccustomed pleasure too!) and the office atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable.

I settled in very quickly and soon lost the worst of my nerves as my designs seemed to be mostly well-received!
