This was my first crack at the company website for Hughes Rae itself. The website of your own company is always the last priority as paid work takes precedence, and very often suffers because of this. When I finally did get a chance to re-design the existing site, we decided to go for an abstract look with a glossy, high-tech feel.
The homepage itself was loaded from a brief animated intro with the "scanning circle" effect animated in Flash while the company's mission statement appeared as text over the top. The various components of the navigation structure then locked into place ready for use. It wasn't a big site, and the various sections were simple flat HTML but designed to reflect the Flash animation in their look.
My predecessor designed the "Picasso head" which was the company's main branding. The circle was a different colour depending on which division of the company it was being used for - as I recall, blue was Hughes Rae itself, orange was Hughes Rae Commerce, green was Hughes Rae Pharma (we had legacy relationships with a lot of the big pharmaceutical firms), and red was Hughes Rae Communication (mobile devices were very new and we were one of the first companies to offer Web services on them).
The head was kept right the way up to our eventual acquisition by Morse, though the look of this particular website changed a couple more times.
