Two performances of this farce by John Waterhouse, full of bawdy puns and slapstick. I remember it being quite good fun to do, though I suspect the level of comic timing required for farce to work properly was somewhat lacking in the (under 14 year old) cast and the romantic by-play and sexual innuendo were probably not quite what the author had in mind when he wrote them due to the all-male cast!
This piece marked the first real 'rivalry' between myself and a guy called Paul Rose who I competed with for the leading roles in the school plays for the rest of our time at Rendcomb!
This play was also notable for having a news broadcast in it which was specially recorded for us at the BBC by Kenneth Kendall, who was a leading national news reader at the time...which was nice.
"Jonathan Dixon played the difficult role of sidekick very successfully, and his nervousness and guilty expressions brought the house down."

On a side note, this was only one of my theatrical outings this year. I was also a member of the chorus in a staging of Weber's 1821 opera, 'Der Freischutz', appearing and singing as various huntsmen, villagers and even what I think is meant to be a forest demon of some sort (see below) although the movements appear more reminiscent of embarrassingly pissed uncles dancing at a wedding reception - check out the guy on the extreme left with the hand jive thing going on!
