The Incredible Adventures of Professor Branestawm by Norman Hunter - Catapult Cavalier/Man from the Ministry

- Nottingham Theatre Royal. Directed by Danny Hiller.

This was actually my fourth job and the third for the Nottingham Roundabout company after two TIE (theatre-in-education) shows - see the TIE link on the left. After TIE this Christmas show came as a welcome relief! It gave me a chance to work with some smashing actors - David Hatton and Will Warrior as the Professor and Colonel Dedshott, and Tamsin Heatley as Mrs Flittersnoop were all wonderful, as were the supporting cast, and the special effects that brought the Professor's inventions to life were very effective. There were also some great musical numbers by musical director Graham Belchere (and I got to exercise my guitar and banjo playing for the first time in the band!)

This show also gave me a chance to meet a childhood hero! Norman Hunter, the author of the books on which the play was based had his 80th birthday during the run of the show, and a birthday party was held for him at the theatre. I was genuinely a huge fan - the Professor Branestawm books were childhood favourites - and I got a chance to shake his hand and thank him for those hours of childhood pleasure. Which was nice.

"I really liked the clumsy way they acted..."(Kevin Ash, 11)
