The next few years would be a huge learning experience, from early work in Theatre in Education through national tours, seasons of repertory work, London fringe and summer seasons under canvas, with the odd brief (and not so brief) excursion into TV soaps, radio and films.
On the way I moved from 'walk-on' parts to leading roles and had the great good fortune to work with some exceptionally talented people, actors, directors and technicians. Of course there were also a fair few somewhat less talented individuals as well! Most of my work was in regional theatres, so I witnessed at first hand the commitment and dedication of the people who worked at this level, often producing work which rivalled or, indeed, surpassed that of the bigger theatres on a fraction of the bigger venues' budgets.
Click on the roughly chronological list of plays to the left or the thumbnails below to see pictures and notes about the productions. The list isn't totally comprehensive - I don't have any record other than an odd newspaper clipping of some of the productions I was in, particularly the early ones. Other productions that I was in during this time included 'Funtime At The Dallas Book Depository' (as Lee Harvey Oswald), 'Naylor's Fall' (as Cromwell), 'Dracula' at the Metro Theatre, Bath (as Jonathan Harker) and 'Neptune's Gift' at the Solent Peoples' Theatre Company (as Piers Paycock)...
