Eunos Roadster

- fun in the sun (and pretty entertaining in any other weather!)

It's arguable that it took the Japanese to create a classic modern British Sports Car with the Eunos Roadster/Mazda MX5. The car handles beautifully and the rear-wheel drive gives it a 'seat of the pants' edge that more than makes up for the lack of real 'high' performance. Many people think that the style of the car harks back to the classic sports cars from the 1960s - the later cars with the integral headlamps instead of the retro 'flip-ups' have moved away from this and aren't nearly as cool, in my opinion.

Mine is a 1990 V-Special, imported from Japan in January 2002 and bought from David Brewster at Dandycars (highly recommended). Standard spec on the V-Special includes: alloys, air-conditioning, power steering, electric windows, radio/CD/cassette, headrest speakers, tan leather interior, stainless steel kick-plates and wooden Nardi steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake.

Other additions and alterations to mine include:

  • K&N 57i air intake
  • 3cm lowered suspension
  • Flyin' Miata dual exit stainless steel freeflow exhaust (installed by Phil Dixon at Performance5)
  • Respray in pearlescent british racing green
  • Electric aerial
  • Mike Satur chrome style-bars with integrated glass wind-blocker
  • Mike Satur chrome gear-shift surround
  • Chrome front grille
  • Chrome side window vents, vent rings, hazard/headlight button surround and window switch surround
  • Matt Developments heated glass rear window
  • Matt Developments kit for raising/lowering the roof without unzipping
  • Toad AI606 (Thatcham category 1) alarm system
  • Upgraded headrest (JVC) and door (Sony) speakers
  • Alpine head-unit
  • Alpine 6-CD changer (mounted inside spare wheel)
  • Tom Tom Navigator 2 GPS system
  • Lockwood white dials
  • Brushed aluminum instrument panel
  • Chrome 'vintage' instrument bezels
  • Chrome needle caps
  • Lockwood white heater control panel
  • Chrome heater control surround
